I always find it really interesting, reading the info page of people on Facebook – especially their favourite quote. It can you tell you a lot about someone.
I didn’t realize how up-lifting quotes could be, until I saw this one: “I believe in the sun even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when I do not feel it. I believe in God even when he is silent.’ This was scrawled on a wall where Jews had hidden in World War 2. It gave me goose-bumps, when I thought how frightened these people must have been but how deep their belief was. Now whether or not you believe, is in material, what I LOVE is the thinking behind the quote.
Here are some more of my favourites (I don’t always know who said them – sorry!):
‘Speak love, live love, be love.”
‘Dance like no one is watching, love like you’ve never been hurt, sing like no one is listening.’
‘Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.’
Then there are the fun ones:
‘Women are Angels! When someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly on a broom stick. We’re flexible like that!’
‘You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders…’ Ray Bradbury
‘Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right, either way’
Do you have a favourite quote?
“It’s been a long time coming but now the snow is gone” – Josh Ritter
A few of my favourite quotes:
“There is nothing perfect. There is only life.” – August Boatwright (The Secret Life of Bees).
“An artist cannot do anything slovenly.” – Jane Austen.
“I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” – John Muir.
“There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep sea and the music in its roar;
I love not man the less, but Nature more.” – Lord Byron.
“Joy is not in things; it is in us.” – Wilhelm Richard Wagner.
‘Looking at something and seeing it are two completely different things.’
‘There is so much good in the worst of us and bad in the best of us that it behooves any one of us to find fault with the rest of us.’
🙂
‘In that book which is
My memory…
On the first page
That is the chapter when
I first met you
…Appear the words…
Here begins a new life.’
— La Vita Nuova by Dante Alighieri
I forgot to put this one in!
Hi Fleur.
My favourite quote
Life may not be the party you’d hoped it would be, but while you are here you might as well dance. Maya Angelou
It’s not how the chips fall. It’s what you do with them once they’re down.
You get what you settle for (Louise, Thelma & Louise)
*If you love something, Let it go If it comes back, It’s yours –
*Doubt your doubts before you doubt your beliefs!
Not sure who came up with these but I find them interesting!
Fleur, I love quotes too. I really love that Dante one you put up. I think my favourite quote right now is “The heart has its reasons that the reason cannot know” – Blaise Pascal.
I came across this a while ago and I have since seen it on your blog, but I love it!
“Being a good writer is 3% talent, and 97% not being distracted by the internet.” ~ Anonymous
Another I like, which I frequently use as my status is:
“Be kind to everyone you meet, because each of us carries a burden that no one else can see.”
I love quotes.
A couple of my faves:
“Shoot for the moon, even if you miss it you’ll land among the stars”
“Be the change you want to see in the world”
and, my very own quote I came up with:
“Don’t just sit there, write something!”
🙂
“I believe in the sun even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when I do not feel it. I believe in God even when he is silent.’
that’s a song by barlow girl, called I believe in love… AWESOME SONG!! 😀
Hi Fleur,
Some great quotes here.
I really like the one Annie posted:
Life may not be the party you’d hoped it would be, but while you are here you might as well dance. Maya Angelou
I also like juliet’s: Shoot for the moon, even if you miss it you’ll land among the stars

Sam I love that! So true.
Yep, some great quotes here! Keep leaving them!
All manuscripts published are butterflies, once having lived the life of a caterpillar. 🙂
“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand – strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOOHOO – What a Ride!””
I have soooo many….from a couple by MLK:
We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
A man can’t ride your back unless it’s bent.
To (for a laugh) Homer Simpson:
Lisa, if you don’t like your job you don’t strike. You just go in every day and do it really half-assed. That’s the American way.
and good old Shaky Bill, from Midsummer Night’s dream:
Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind,
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.
A wise man once said to me …
“Never let a chance go by”
