I’m on the countdown to having to have Purple Roads finished. I think there is seven weeks until Allen and Unwin are expecting it.
While I was in Perth I managed to edit most of the manuscript, but there is still a bit of tidying up to do, plus a few thousand more words to be written.
The green scribbles on the pages are my alterations. I often wonder, as I’m making these changes, if I’m doing the right thing or if they’ll be edited straight back out again when we do the main edit.
Today is head down and bum up for a few hours before we head out to the sheep yards to draft lambs for a truck tomorrow.
I’m making a concerted effort to stay of Twitter while I’m finishing Purple Roads. Unfortunately, yesterday my daughter caught me checking out what was happening with my online friends and said: ‘Aren’t you supposed to be writing?’
Me: “Um, yes,” looking guilty.
Her: ‘Well get off there and get writing, Mum. That book won’t finish itself you know.’ Wise words from an eleven year old who has been through this process twice before!
It looks like there might be a bit of rain this week – which would be perfect, if not a bit late! That will hopefully eventuate so I can get a few more hours at my desk and in amongst the lives of Anna and Matt.
Here’s hoping!
Good luck! And what a clever chook your daughter is.
