Big life update: The times, they are a-changin'

Meet Jack. He's the new addition to the McDonald household. He's a gorgeous, energetic, five-year-old Kelpie from Woonwooring Kelpies at Cunderdin.

Why, might you ask, does someone who lives in town and writes books for a living need a Kelpie? And that would be a good question because Kelpies need space to run around in and sheep to chase.

Well, this happened back in November...Yep, I'm finally a farmer again - 2,500 acres of beautiful stock country... But it's not the conventional way of farming. I've gone into partnership with this lovely family.

This picture was taken last night. The settlement went through on the 1st of February 2018, and we had a few celebratory drinks on the farm last night.

BUT, I've let my side of the partnership down already! The day before New Year I prolapsed a disk in my back. The proper diagnosis was: a prolapsed L5/S1 severe root compression and the disk had shattered...So, that meant a ride in an ambulance, a flight in the RFDS and spinal surgery. Not to mention three weeks in hospital. An interesting way to spend the new year.

You would not believe how sexy the hospital socks are... And I took this photo after I decided that if I didn't laugh, I'd cry. So I spent the rest of the evening giggling at the red socks over the stockings. I figured the red was supposed to make me shuffle faster; however, I must've been given a bung pair because I don't think anyone walked slower than I did!

Huge, huge thanks to my gorgeous friend Heather to came up from Esperance to be with me during the operation and days afterwards.

All of this means I'll have a lot more time to write, which I'm doing! I'm writing a new book called Trust in Me, but before that, my April release, FOOL'S GOLD, is nearly out (March 28) and is available for preorder HERE. I'll write a little more about Fool's Gold in the next blog, but isn't the cover pretty? And that's our gorgeous Detective Dave on the front there!

And, because I don't do things by half, I had to have a suspicious mole removed from between my toes. The interesting thing bout having a mole removed from this area is the doctor couldn't stitch it and left a large gaping crater, which will take about six weeks to heal.

However, if you do, you'll work out why I'm still shuffling and laid up... and why it's going to take me a little while to be able to get back into the sheep yards. Poor Jack will have to look on longingly for about six months!
