The Witness; clever and gripping
The Witness is seven days away from hitting a shelf near you. I think I’ve told you all before that I get very nervous when I have a book coming out. That’s because it matters so, so much to me that you like it. And I guess I pour so much love and time into these stories since it’s my full time job, that for you not to like it would be devastating for me. (Are you getting a feel of how needy and neurotic authors are?! We really are!)
So you can imagine how excited I was to get this feedback!
“A cleverly plotted police procedural, The Witness delivers plenty of twists and mounting tension as decades-old secrets begin to unravel.”
“Sharp, gripping, and layered with intrigue, The Witness is a compelling mystery that deftly explores secrets, lies, and betrayal.” Both of these quotes are from Shelleyrae at Bookdout.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a plot called clever! I was blown away. And because I try and make every book I write different and better than the last one, I’m hoping that I’ve certainly done that with Shelleyrae’s feedback. If this has whet your appetite and you’d like to preorder The Witness click here.
Today, I wanted to share some photos with you of places that I’ve set scenes in The Witness. Below is Lake Ballard. Molly takes a visit out here and has a disturbing encounter.

Then there’s Niagara Dam. Now this place is very important as you come to the end of the book. If you remember when you’re reading the scene, come back and have a look at this!

My mate Tuesday, took me out to all these places and we an had a great day running here there and everywhere checking out places I could use to hide people and vehicles. I always find that when I have a place in my mind where I’m going to hide something or someone, it’s a really easy scene to write because I know where I am. The day we went here, it was bloody freezing and very windy, but we had a picnic there and then a really good walk around, exploring.
The Kookynie Pub is such a ripper place. It has a resident retired racehorse which welcomes visitors (just don’t stand behind him) and sticks his head through the window in hope of a treat. Tuesday and I stopped in here and had one off the wood. The non drinker of the two us (me) only had a lemon, lime and bitters! There were two prospectors in there and I loved sitting and evesdropping on their stories. Sometimes that’s when you get best content!
Anyhow, I’m now busy writing The Syndicate, which is my November release (and that is a working title) so I’d better get back to it before my long suffering publisher and editor has a nervous breakdown because I haven’t delivered yet!
And just a by-the-by, I”m hoping there won’t be any distribution issues with The Witness coming out. I’m a little nervous that with the fuel issues that the world is having there might be some disruption, but I haven’t heard of any just yet, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed everything will go smoothly.
